Alexandra climbs Mont Ventoux at Tri Camp

Tri Camp in the Vaucluse

April 2017

Last week from April 8-15, Alexandra took part in the first tri camp of the year in L’Isle sur la Sorgue in the heart of the scenic Vaucluse.

The camp, (advertised last winter in our newsletter) was organized by Julien Paquet*, SBR coaching and CD 77.   *bottom left photo with Alexandra

Multiple clubs from Ile de France participated including: US Palaiseau, Trinosaure (Mureaux), Saint Genevieve des Bois, Courbevoie, BNP Tri…

The training was supervised by 8 coaches, including top athletes from the D1 circuit (Felix Duchampt, Julie Nivoix). The training was primarily focused around cycling with daily rides as well as the climb of Mont Ventoux – 21 km and 1650 meters.

Alexandra totaled up 450 kms worth of riding in a week day in addition to the daily running and swimming training. The week ended with a relay aquathlon competition mixing youth clubs and adult groups.

Needless to say, Bernard Geffroy’s last minute proposals of stunning col rides and swim relay races in the Carpentras Canal put the participants into high gear to manage these race-condition scenarios.

Alexandra said:

“It was the occasion to get to know other clubs and future elite athletes from the youth group; to get to learn about other coaches and training techniques and drills on the top of my main goal for attending – climbing Ventoux.

Being pushed out of my comfort zone from day 1 riding with Bernard Geffroy (Vincent Luis’ coach) and Julien Paquet, I practiced going up and down hills as planned.

What I did not plan on was riding breakless….

I had to learn about mechanics since I had to replace my brake pads due to over utilization on my Mont Ventoux descent.

Part of the training included an interesting repair/mechanical tips workshop.

I definitely recommend this tri camp. Being early in the season it helps prepare for tri competitions at the end of April/beginning of May”.

The tri camp was open to all levels: intermediates athletes as well as athletes looking for performance or even new to tri competition.

Julien did an excellent job ensuring harmonization within the group of 80 athletes at the camp.”

Something to watch out for in 2018. We will keep you posted.
